Petra Kinclová Vondrušková DEPARTMENT: Department of Special Educadion SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Monika Mužáková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of technical equipment and literacy among elderly people. An integral part of the thesis looks also at gerontotechnology the task of which is to enhance the quality of life of the elderly and to allow them to remain in their home and therefore natural environment as long as possible. The title "how IT changed my life" contains an infinite number of questions and answers. Many elderly people feel better nowadays thanks to modern technologies. They appreciate the speed of information search on the internet, whether it involves health, cultural or transport information. Technologies also allow them to keep in touch with their family and friends. The benefit in the area of care and safety is also worth mentioning, especially in case of those living alone without a possibility of an all day oversight. Nowadays we can choose from several types of signal devices that can alert the police or a 24/7 line that can check the elderly person immediately over the phone, or send out an ambulance if necessary.
